a taste of SG
we live in an apartment that has a gym, video rental, hair salon, health insurance company, carpet store and an asian (indian) store on the ground floor... so we are basically living in a commercial area... so very convenient, since right across the street is the commercial center, banks, and restaurants. but, for me, the best perk of living in the city center, particularly in our area, is the asian store downstairs. it sells relatively cheaper items (comparing with those from the supermarket), and i get to go down in my slippers, just put on a jacket and buy, say, 4 so, what's a photo cooked crabs doing here? well... you see, last week, while i was in the store buying some supplies, i've chit-chatted with the owner and she offered if i needed some veggies, i said not today, and then she said, we have some fresh seafood too! and that got my attention... so i asked what they had, she said she had some blue crabs... yummm... so i said, ok i'll be back, i just need to run to the other store since they don't have the veggie for my kare-kare. so going back, i check-out the crabs, they were good! looks fat (i don't really know how to judge or how to pick). so i went home with 4 blue crabs, which i think weighed around 700 grams. i actually had a traumatic experience with frozen seafood crabs from a store i went to before, what happened was, when i defrosted and cooked the mud crabs i bought, they were literally empty, i think the storege time was too long, so the meat diluted, i don't know! and then there was the milk fish incident, where i bought the already cleaned and cut frozen bangus, i made sinigang out of it, but we were again disappointed because the fish bones was everywhere! matinik talaga! but the fish itself was good, it was just too "boney". so we promised ourselves never to buy seafood from these stores again... but the fresh seafood offer was too tempting so i decided to give it a try. i bought the 4 crabs without knowing yet what dish to make out of it. and then i remembered the other week we went to a birthday lunch in a malaysian restaurant... they served mud crabs! that's it! i'll make that kind of meal! so on i went searching the net for the recipe... and here is what i made! singapore black pepper crabs, a simple yet very tasty dish, and quite easy to make! i'm sharing the recipe, just in case you'd be interested to give it a try! looking at the photos of my finished products makes my mouth water! oh, the dish was great, fiery hot - but that never stopped us from finishing the 4 crabs down to the last meat... really mouth watering! enjoy! Singapore Black Pepper Crabs To serve 4 (but two people managed to finish it... and even wanting more!) Ingredients for the crab:
Method for the crab: 1. Have your fish market kill and clean the crabs, cut them into quarters and crack the claws. i promise... it's yum-yum! and as far as we're concered, it is exactly how it should taste... maybe just a little milder, since i've adjusted the "hotness". ![]() Labels: dailies, in the kitchen |

when boys get bored...
... they would make a round of a shouting game... here's a sample, we got to capture the "moment" when were they were almost finished, so this is the mellow part of the game ... so, you can imagine how we "suffer the consequence" of their having fun when they decide to play it the car. hmm... maybe they're doing it on purpose? ![]() |

my 14-month old
simon is turning 14 months two days from now, and proud mums like moi would only boast of the tiny things they can do right now. so even if he's still not walking on his own (oh, he does two steps - max. and then he goes down on all fours and crawls like he's in a race. he is very impatient with mastering walking on his own).... he can clap now! we say "bravo", he'll say "javo". he waves bye-bye and try to immitate what we say by saying "lalalalalala....". then he can do hi-fives! (and low-fives, too!) and finally, he knows how to kiss now! he sometimes kiss with smooch sound, or with just an open-mouth and making sure it lands on your lips, or with a tight tuck landing on your cheeks. moments like these feels like heaven! i haven't documented (i.e. took photos or videos) these moments yet, as if feels difficult to do it by myself, but hopefully soon - before he gets tired of it!. |

scrapbooking project
| i've finally decided to collect all my scrapbook projects and put it in one webshots account to put a bit of order in my works, sad to say i can't locate some of my projects since we're reformatted the computer a while back. so, lest i forget, i will post all my finished projects. the digital ones by frapri_scraps and my manual layouts by frapri_scraps. next target for me to achieve is to have the digital ones printed and binded. hmm... when would that be? |

my hectic day
| tuesday is the most hectic weekday for me. it's the day i do the laundry - in switzerland, it is common that apartments have shared laundry area, usually coin or cash-card operated. so if i have enough credit in my card, i would do the laundry from 9am up to 4pm. that's about 4 batches of laundry and drying at one hour per laundry and drying. my normal schedule is 6am-2pm, which i obviously cannot commit to as it is too early for me... good thing our pinoy neighbor allows me to use his time slot, since he goes home from work at around 6pm. you see, life here revolves around laundry... unless you get your own which can be quite expensive! :p preparing lunch is more challenging this day of the week, since i need to juggle minding 2 boys, keeping track of time for the laundry and preparing lunch. so, we usually have just leftovers or dishes that are quite easy to prepare and cook... today, i didn't know what to prepare so i just made fried rice w/ taba ng talangka and lumpiang shanghai (the lumpia was prepared long before... frozen and thawed) :) yummy! and finally, it's also a "school night" for me, today is a bit more demanding since we have an exam later! i wonder if an hour's review will be fine? good luck to me! i may also run errands during the day, not much of a challenge since we live just above the shopping centre. so, that's how hectic tuesday is... but i was still able to slip in a post in my blog! :) how about you? when is your hectic day and what's like?
